Mercy Hospital - Expansion and Renovation
Charlotte. NC

The Mercy Hospital expansion and renovation adds 145,000 square feet to include three floors of medical offices, surgery, pharmacy and central sterile. The project involves complex phasing, infrastructure upgrades, new and renovation project components.

The RPA Design and RTKL team collaborate efforts with Leach Wallace, Uzun & Case, and ColeJenest & Stone developing the schematic package for this project.

RPA Design shares the responsibility of designing renovations of a major expansion and redevelopment for CMC - Mercy Hospital with RTKL. RTKL is designing the shell and core of a five level addition that will ultimately contain a surgery suite with twelve operating rooms, central sterile, pharmacy, cadaver lab, conference center and three floors of medical office building. The building will connect to all eight levels of the adjacent hospital by an elevator and a service corridor tunneled under an existing building. A parking deck consisting of 290 spaces is designed to accommodate an expansion of a two-story diagnostic center facing a historic neighborhood also connects to the building. Construction began in late 2006.
